Bck to School

Over the past few weeks, parents and children, have been going to stores purchasing the items needed for a new school year. This time is filled with emotions as the transition from a summer filled with fun and freedom, turns to months of schooling. As the new school year begins I want to encourage you to have a Christian influence on the person who teaches you or your children. Here are some thoughts:

Introduce yourself and your child to your teacher. Tell her that you will support and help whenever it is needed. Also, let the teacher know that you will be praying for her (1 Timothy 2:1).
Go the second mile. Be a servant (John 13). Don’t just remember your child’s teacher during “National Teacher’s Week,” find ways to help and encourage her throughout the year. (Matthew 5:41).
Share with her the good that is being done for your child in her class. Often, the only time teachers hear from parents is when there is an issue. When you notice anything positive the teacher has done for your child make sure to tell her. Don’t keep that information to yourself. Share it! We all like to know when we have done a good job (Proverbs 3:27).

Say, “Thank You!” And do it regularly. Teachers are some of the most unappreciated people in our society. Teachers invest a great deal of time and hard work to teach our children. They’re deserving of our gratitude (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Invite them to Church. After establishing and building a relationship with your child’s teacher (friendship evangelism), by putting into practice these suggestions. They will be much more likely to accept an invitation to church, a special event, or even a Bible study. The worst they can say is, “No” (John 1:45-46).
While our nation has done its best to remove God from public schools, that doesn’t mean our influence as Christians is gone. Be Christlike and good things will happen.
