True Love

“Your true love lives! And yet you marry another.  True love saved her in the fire swamp, and she treated it like garbage.  So, bow to her if you want.  Bow to her.  Bow to the queen of slime, the queen of filth, the queen of putrescence.  Boo, boo! Rubbish, slime, filth, muck! Boo!  Boo!  Boo!”

Name that Quote!!! It comes from one of my all-time favorite movies: The Princess Bride.  Many of you may have seen it, but if you haven’t, here is the situation: Princess Buttercup must choose between marrying her true love, Westley, or the war monger, prince Humperdink.  In the quote above the princess is dreaming of choosing the prince instead of her true love, and that is a reaction from a woman in her dream.

We too must decide who or what it is that we truly love. Jesus is our true Love, He did everything to save us from an eternity of torture and damnation in darkness, in a fire that can’t be quenched, and the continual gnashing of teeth.  Our other choice is to love this present world and all that it can give the flesh.

John 2:15, “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in Him.”

James 4:4, “You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

The choice is ours to make, but who will you choose, the sinful world, or the Savior, Jesus Christ? The world doesn’t really care about you one bit, but Jesus laid down His life for you and loves you more than you can comprehend.

“For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.  For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.  And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation” (Romans 5:6-11)
