blessing of obedience 1030x513

We live in a day and age where people are encouraged to do what feels right, to follow your heart, to do what is right for you.  All that sounds great, doesn’t it?  This is what Scripture calls, “Doing what is right in your own eyes.”  However, is that really the best path for our lives?  The wise man, Solomon, performed a great experiment to discover what the best course of action would be for one’s life.  Should we do what we feel is right? Or should we live obediently to God?

Solomon as king spared no expense in experiencing life. He did everything his heart desired, and after doing so he said, “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity” (Eccl. 1:2).  What a sad statement of a life lived to fulfill our fleshly desires.  Thankfully, this is not the only way to live.

Solomon did discover the best way to live one’s life.  He concluded his book with these words, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Eccl. 12:13-14).  Let’s Strive to live a life of obedience to God, learning from Solomon that it is the best path for our lives.
