Don’t Ever Give Up

We all face various struggles, illnesses, stumbling blocks, failures, and trials throughout our lives. The temptation to throw up our hands and say, “I quit!” is easy. Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, had plenty of reasons to quit and not succeed. Look at a summary of his life:

  • Difficult Childhood
  • Less than one year of formal schooling
  • Failed in business, 1831
  • Defeated for Legislature, 1832
  • Failed in business again, 1833
  • Elected to legislature, 1834
  • Fiancée died, 1835
  • Defeated for Speaker, 1838
  • Defeated for Elector, 1840
  • Only one of his four sons lived past 18
  • Defeated for Congress, 1843
  • Elected to Congress, 1846
  • Defeated for Congress, 1848
  • Defeated for Senate, 1855
  • Defeated for Vice-President, 1856
  • Defeated for Senate, 1858
  • Elected President, 1860

Lincoln could have easily given up hope and any desire to push forward, but he didn’t. When we are defeated it can make us put blinders on and forget that God is with us and has already given us victory through His Son. Remember the victory you have in Christ and never give up!

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:57,58).
