Don’t Quit, We Need You!

At halftime of the second game for the Buffalo Bills, the season was looking bleak. A 0-2 start is not out of the ordinary for the Bills, but still not what the players, coaches, and fans wanted. After losing 47-3 to the Ravens in Week 1, Buffalo trailed 28-6 at halftime. Adding insult to injury, corner Vontae Davis decided to retire at halftime. He cited legitimate reasons: standards to which he held himself, injury concerns, and the like. All of these are valid reasons to retire from the NFL. However, teammates, commentators, and opponents all have agreed on one principle: you don't quit on your teammates in the middle of a game. Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander called it, "completely disrespectful." A former NFL player said, "It's one of the most selfish things you can do. The other guys are counting on you."

We assemble with our brothers and sisters in Christ each week. Those assemblies are for the purpose of building up, encouraging, and comforting each other. While we praise the Lord when we assemble, the edification, exhortation, and consolation that takes place between Christians are important components of our assembly.

Am I letting them down when they need me the most? Don't quit! It may be your presence or your encouragement that leads a soul to Christ or encourages one to continue walking with Him!

“Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near (Hebrews 10:24,25)”
