A Merry Heart

"Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad." (Proverbs 12:25); "A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast." (Proverbs 15:13,15); "The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not share its joy. A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones." (Proverbs 14:10, 30); "A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones." (Proverbs 17:22)

This time of year, people use the word “merry” quite often.  We wish for people to be merry and filled with cheer. To have a joy that fills their heart and soul.  The scriptures above remind us of the benefits of having a merry heart.  If we truly want to have a merry heart and to encourage others to be merry as well, then Jesus needs to be at the heart of it all.
