What is Your Reaction?

“Post Gameday Observations: Preaching for a congregation wherein the former defensive coordinator at UT and his family were/are members and the current head coach's son is a member has helped my perspective about football "GAMES." These people we take to task on Facebook and publicly criticize are real people, and have real families, and are even our brothers in Christ. Your identity isn't lessened or enhanced by the outcome of a GAME, in which you didn't even play. Be as disappointed as you want to be when your favorite team loses, but at the same time, be an accurate reflection of Jesus.”

-Steve Higginbotham, Facebook post

We all have teams, shows, and entertainment that we enjoy. When we are disappointed with the outcome what do we do? The easy path is to discourage others, to blame, and point the finger at someone else. We do this so often when things do not go “our way.” But is that how a Christian should behave?

Let’s try a different approach and instead try to build the person(s) up that may have failed or made a mistake. I am guilty of putting down my children by focusing on the one negative and not acknowledging the 12 positive things they did that day. We need to be reminded that in Christ we should be building each other up!

“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11
