Saves the Poor and Needy
“Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalms 82:4
We do not understand all the ways God helps the poor and needy. Our part in the way of helping is more easily understood.
Jesus instructed the rich young man to sell all he had and give it to the poor. It is reasonable to think the young man did not understand that God would not leave anyone serving him destitute.
The apostle Paul put it this way for us, “As we therefore have opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” Galatians 6:10. When we see one in need we should help him or her as we are able to do. This applies to brothers and sisters in Christ, and to everyone. What little I can do is added with what
others are able to do and the needy are taken care of.
These are ways that God works today to help the poor and needy. Each Christian becomes a member of an informal team, headed by God, that sees to the needs of the poor and needy. Another is to “visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction” James1:27. Visit means to help them with their needs.
All of these are a few of the ways that God may help the poor and needy. We are a part of the way God’s help is delivered. We, individually, and as part of group participation in the local congregation, help the poor and needy. Never discount your effort. God knows it.
