The Wonder of Jesus

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, the multitudes cried saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Hosanna in the highest!” Later, the multitudes, persuaded by the chief priests and elders, called for His crucifixion (Matt. 27:22). Few recognized Him as the one Isaiah described as Wonderful.

The Messiah was wonderful in all things. He is wonderful in His deity and in His selfless love that led Him from the brightness of heaven into the darkness of this sin-cursed world.

It was wonderful love by which God gave Him, and by which he came; He was wonderful in His virgin birth; His humility, His sinless life of service, His self-denial, His sorrows were wonderful; His mighty works were wonderful; His teachings were wonderful, His dying agonies were wonderful; and His resurrection, His ascension, were all fitted to excite admiration and wonder.

Someone once said, “In Christ we have a love that can never be fathomed, a life that can never die, a peace that can never be understood, a rest that can never be disturbed, a joy that can never be diminished, a hope that can never be disappointed, a glory that can never be clouded, a light that can never be darkened, and a spiritual resource that can never be exhausted.”

If there is anyone who deserves that name “Wonderful”, it is Jesus.

Do you love the Wonderful One? If you do, your life here will be full of wonder, and the life hereafter, bliss! Take time to ponder the wonder of Jesus!
